The Cleveland Browns are doing some roster shuffling ahead of Week 6 against the San Francisco 49ers.
Up from the practice squad against the 49ers are quarterback P.J. Walker and wide receiver Jaelon Darden. Walker is set to make his first start with the Browns.
Walker will be the third different quarterback under center for the Browns through Week 6 of the season already. As Deshaun Watson remains out with a bruised rotator cuff, the Browns have handed the backup spot to Walker over rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
Against the Baltimore Ravens was DTR under center, but it did not bode well and the Browns opted to make the move. For Walker, this is the second of three elevations the Browns can use for him.
Darden appeared in two games for the Browns late last season after being claimed off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Darden provides return ability more than anything at this point in his NFL career.
It’s going to be tough sledding against perhaps the best team in the NFL with the 49ers coming to town, but if the Browns are going to get it done it’s going to be with their practice squad quarterback.
