Pittsburgh Steelers GM Omar Khan has been a busy man since the start of camp, signing and releasing players left and right

But following the unfortunate injury to rookie WR Roman Wilson on Tuesday, Khan and the rest of Pittsburgh's personnel knew they had to add another pass catcher.

It came at the cost of a long-time defensive lineman but adds a name the Steelers scouting staff knows well.

Steelers Sign WR Tariq Black

The Steelers signed receiver Tarik Black.

Black originally signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent following the 2021 NFL Draft. He spent time on the Colts practice squad in 2021, but was released before the end of the season.

Black was signed by the New York Jets practice squad late in the 2021 season and was elevated for the final game of the year, making two catches for 10 yards. He spent part of the 2022 season on the Jets practice squad as well.

The Ravens added Black to their practice squad in 2023.

Black spent one season at the University of Texas where he appeared in eight games in 2020, finishing with 10 receptions for 240 yards and one touchdown. Before joining the Longhorns, he spent three years at Michigan where he appeared in 21 games, starting nine. He finished with 40 receptions for 507 yards and two touchdowns. – Teresa Varley, Steelers

Now this may not be the move that Steelers fans are hoping for, but they have to replenish the WR room, even if it's only for a few weeks, when analyzing what insiders are saying about the timetable for Wilson's return

There is also, the looming possibility of a trade, something ESPN's Dan Graziano is 'expecting' to happen:

I expect the Steelers to add a wide receiver if one becomes available in a trade as the preseason unfolds. But as of now, nothing on that front seems imminent, which means opportunity for the guys who are in camp to audition for the No. 2 wide receiver spot behind George Pickens. Veteran Van Jefferson (who played for OC Arthur Smith in Atlanta last year) is one to keep an eye on, based on the conversations I had while I was there, and Calvin Austin Ill is another guy for whom the Steelers have high hopes. Rookie Roman Wilson has a chance to occupy the slot receiver role. –Dan Graziano, ESPN

Time is ticking on a move of that sort.
