Veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen admits the Panthers were his second choice
Carolina only landed Adam Thielen because one AFC rival didn’t want him.
The Carolina Panthers almost missed out on Adam Thielen.
If it weren't for the Kansas City Chiefs, Carolina's wide receiver group would have been even worse in 2023.
Thielen recently told Starcade Media that the Chiefs didn't want him before the 2023 season.
"Well I was trying to go there and they didn't want me so I'll have to try to show them what I got," Thielen said.
Thielen ended up signing with the Panthers as a result. He followed that up with one of the most productive seasons of his career.
As Bryce Young's only reliable target, Thielen recorded his second career 100-catch season, catching 103 passes for 1,014 yards and four touchdowns.
He will now be in a more natural role, with the Panthers bringing in Diontae Johnson through trade and landing Xavier Legette in the draft.
However, it turns out, his time in Charlotte would have never happened if one team had said yes instead of no.
