For the last several months, the Tennessee Vols have been the overwhelming favorites to land 2025 four-star safety Lagonza Hayward.

But after a big weekend visit to Athens, it's no longer a certainty that Hayward will be rocking the Power T in college.

Hayward, who is rated by 247Sports as the No. 6 safety in the nation, took a visit to Georgia this past weekend that reportedly went extremely well. The 6-foot-1/200 lb defensive back told On3 that the Bulldogs "made a big move" and moved up his list.

Alabama, Florida, Florida State, South Carolina, and USC are also in the mix for Hayward. But for now, this appears to mainly be a battle between Georgia and Tennessee.

On Monday evening, Hayward revealed to On3 that he plans to announce his commitment on August 7.

While Georgia has some momentum after a big weekend visit, the Vols are still a program that very much has Hayward's attention.

"From the first time I visited Tennessee, I felt it could be the place I want to be at," said Hayward to On3. "The people are great and the atmosphere is electrifying."

Tennessee will receive Hayward's final official visit (June 21) before he makes his decision in early August. That could be enough for the Vols to hold on to win a recruiting battle that's become a lot more interesting in recent days.
