The Tennessee Vols will get a chance to shine on the national stage early in the 2024 season.

It was announced on Wednesday that Tennessee's matchup against NC State in Charlotte in Week 2 of the 2024 college football season will kick off at 7:30 PM ET on September 7.

The matchup will be televised nationally on ABC.

Tennessee opens the 2024 season on August 31 at home against Chattanooga.

The matchup against NC State will be the Vols' first real test of 2024 season. And while it's a game that Tennessee should win, it's not like NC State is a pushover. The Wolfpack are coming off a 9-4 season that included wins against North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Clemson, and Miami. NC State also added Coastal Carolina transfer quarterback Grayson McCall this offseason.

Fortunately for Tennessee, the Vols get a "tune up game" against Chattanooga before taking on NC State.

An interesting subplot of the Tennessee/NC State game, by the way, is that it will be the first time that Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren has coached against the Vols since nearly being hired by UT during the program's wild 2017 coaching search.

Doeren was "fired up" about the Tennessee job before getting ghosted by then UT athletic director John Currie. NC State ended up giving Doeren a contract extension after the Vols showed interest.
