Chaos erupted on Friday morning before the second round of the PGA Championship at Valhalla.
According to multiple reports, the world's top golfer, Scottie Scheffler, was arrested on Friday morning as he tried to enter the golf course. Scheffler's car was attempting to by-pass an accident that reportedly involved a fatality. Scheffler was taken to a local jail according to multiple reports.
Here's a description of what went down via ESPN's Jeff Darlington.
"Scottie Scheffler has been detained by police in handcuffs after a misunderstanding with traffic flow led to his attempt to drive past a police officer into Valhalla Golf Club," wrote Darlington. "The police officer attempted to attach himself to Scheffler’s car, and Scheffler then stopped his vehicle at the entrance to Valhalla. The police officer then began to scream at Scheffler to get out of the car. When Scheffler exited the vehicle, the officer shoved Scheffler against the car and immediately placed him in handcuffs. He is now being detained in the back of a police car."
And here's the video of the arrest via Darlington.
Darlington said during an appearance on Sportscenter that officers didn't immediately know who they had arrested.
All tee times have been delayed an hour and 20 minutes due to the accident in front of Valhalla.
There's no word yet on Scheffler's status for Friday's second round. Scheffler is scheduled to tee off at 10:08 AM local time, though that's obviously up in the air at this point.
According to WLKY, a man was killed when he was hit by a bus while trying to cross Shelbyville Road outside of the course around 5:00 AM on Friday.
Update:
According to ESPN's coverage of the PGA Championship, Scheffler has been released and is on his way to Valhalla.
