The 2024 NFL Draft class is stacked at the offensive tackle position. According to consensus mock draft data there may be 10 offensive tackle prospects selected inside the first 40 picks of the NFL Draft here soon. But after this week there's one offensive tackle prospect proving to be the most intriguing in the class given all his pre-draft visits. Who is this offensive tackle prospect? Troy Fautanu of the Washington Huskies.
After he finishes his tour of five different NFL stops this week he's going to officially take the pre-draft lead in visits and official formal interviews among all offensive tackles. Fautanu already just met with the Ravens and Bengals. According to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report, he's now set to visit the Jaguars, Steelers, and Eagles here soon too.
This will be Fautanu's first official formal meeting with the Eagles and Jaguars, but it will mark his second with the Steelers. But why are so many teams interested in Troy Fautanu over many other tackles in this class?
What makes Troy Fautanu so special?
For starters, he just posted a 98th percentile A to Z Sports Athletic Composite at the NFL Combine (good for second among all tackles in the class). At 6'4", 317 pounds he ran almost exactly a five-second flat forty-yard dash and measured in with 82nd percentile arms. He's a physical freak with speed, burst, and prototype physical measurements to succeed at both tackle and guard.
Fautanu also just anchored the offensive line that carried Michael Penix Jr. and the Washington Huskies to the national championship game. In fact, he never allowed more than two pressures in a game all last fall on that magical run to the biggest stage in college football. His consistency and potential versatility to play multiple positions along the offensive line make him a highly coveted prospect.
Where Troy Fautanu will be drafted
Given that Troy Fautanu has now met with double-digit NFL teams ranging from the Jets at pick 10 to the Ravens at pick 30, there's certainly a wide expected draft range for him. However, recent mock draft data centers his probability distribution for selection somewhere between picks 17 (Jaguars) and 20 (Steelers). In between those two picks are the Cincinnati Bengals as well.
All three of those teams haven't hidden their affections for Fautanu (the Steelers especially). If an NFL team wants to make sure that he's on their team it seems they may need to trade ahead of the Jaguars at 17. However, if the nine other top tier offensive tackle prospects start to come off the board before him we could see Fautanu drop as low as pick 30 to the Ravens.
We'll continue monitoring Fautanu's visits and pre-draft interest. Be looking for more NFL Draft coverage here at A to Z Sports in the coming weeks. Be sure to follow me (@FF_TravisM) and A to Z Sports (@AtoZSportsNFL) on X for all the latest football news!
