Carolina Panthers star defensive tackle Derrick Brown met with reporters Wednesday, the first time he's spoken since signing a four-year, $96 million extension with the team.
Brown was the object of new general manager Dan Morgan's desire. Morgan talked often about bringing the soon-to-be 26-year-old star back on a lengthy contract extension.
When it happened, especially after the Panthers traded away star outside linebacker Brian Burns, it brought a sigh of relief to the team.
Now Brown is planning what he will use his expected payday to buy.
Brown is still waiting to play late into January. So with his new-found wealth, he is treating himself to something rather light.
“I think we’re getting a pool in the backyard," Brown said of what he and his wife will use his nearly $100 million four-year deal on. "I think we decided that. So I think that’s what’s gonna be bought next.”
With a new pool, Brown will most likely continue to wreck backfields during the 2024 NFL season.
And to Morgan and Dave Canales' pleasure, he will be doing so for seasons to come.
