Five years ago, Byron Young's football future wasn't very bright.

Before signing with the Tennessee Vols in 2020, Young was an assistant manager at Dollar General. He took a flier on Georgia Military College, hoping it could help him fulfill his football dreams.

And that's exactly what happened.

Young spent two seasons at Tennessee before getting selected in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams.

On Thursday, the Rams posted a great behind-the-scenes video from the 2023 NFL Draft that shows the conversations that went down between general manager Les Snead, head coach Sean McVay, and the rest of the front office before Young was selected in the third round.

Young proved to be a steal for the Rams. The former Vol played in all 17 games (making 16 starts) for Los Angeles in 2023. Young totaled eight sacks, two forced fumbles, and 19 quarterback hits. The eight sacks were the most by a rookie edge rusher in 2023 (for context, Houston Texans edge rusher Will Anderson, the No. 3 overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, had seven sacks last season).
