The Tennessee Vols made a major recruiting splash on Thursday evening by landing a commitment from 2025 four-star defensive lineman Ethan Utley.
Utley, 6-foot-4/265 lbs from Nashville, TN, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 19 defensive lineman in the nation and the No. 4 player in the state of Tennessee.
Utley is the Vols' seventh commit to their 2025 recruiting class, joining five-star quarterback George MacIntyre, who committed to Tennessee in January.
Speaking of MacIntyre, he was a big fan of Utley's decision to commit to the Vols on Thursday — especially since Utley is an in-state recruit.
"The best in the state, stay in the state," tweeted MacIntyre after Utley's commitment.
Utley sent the same message to in-state recruits after announcing his commitment, telling 615 Preps' Joe Spears that the goal is to "build a wall around the state".
"We want to build a wall around the state and keep the top guys home so we can build Tennessee football back to the top…all these guys from Nashville have the same goal in mind. They all want Rocky Top to be great again so we want to build something special in Knoxville," explained Utley.
Tennessee's 2025 recruiting class is now ranked No. 10 in the nation (it was ranked No. 13 before Utley's commitment).
