The Tennessee Vols are battling some heavy hitters for one of the top edge rushers in the 2025 recruiting class.
2025 four-star edge rusher Damien Shanklin has four official visits lined up for this spring/summer.
Shanklin will visit Ohio State, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Texas before eventually announcing his commitment.
LSU is also in the mix for Shanklin according to 247Sports.
Shanklin, 6-foot-4/230 lbs from Indianapolis, IN, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 6 edge rusher in the nation and the No. 1 player in the state of Indiana. He's also rated as the No. 47 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class.
Shanklin previously visited Tennessee last fall for the Vols' game against the Georgia Bulldogs.
“The environment was great. Just going to the Georgia game, the fan base was very amazing,” said Shanklin to 247Sports about his visit to Tennessee last season. “It was amazing.”
The Vols are finding themselves in some massive recruiting battles these days under Josh Heupel. And Tennessee is starting to win some of those huge recruiting battles (Mike Matthews and Jordan Ross, for example).
Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Texas are some of the biggest names in college football. Beating those programs for an elite recruit from the midwest would send a message that Tennessee's success on the recruiting trail isn't slowing down anytime soon.
