The Chicago Bears are doing even more due diligence on the top pass rushers in the 2024 NFL Draft with less than two weeks left till opening night.
According to Jordan Schultz, the Bears have scheduled a Top-30 visit with Florida State pass rusher Jared Verse. Verse will also have an upcoming visit scheduled with the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks, who currently hold the 12th and 16th overall picks in the draft.
The Bears are considering drafting another top edge rusher with their second pick in the first round of the draft and Verse could certainly be the prospect the team will look to target with the ninth overall pick.
Since the Broncos are also showing interest in the Florida State edge rusher, the Bears would more than likely have to snag Verse with the ninth overall selection as opposed to potentially trading back from the pick if they want to draft him.
The Bears met with Verse during the NFL Scouting Combine earlier in the draft process and now will be bringing him in for a closer look before the draft.
Verse is coming off a nine sack season in 2023 and really impressed during the combine recording the third best 40-yard dash time and broad jump among his position group in Indianapolis.
Verse is considered one of the top edge rushers in the class, along with Alabama's Dallas Turner and UCLA's Laiatu Latu. Following Verse's upcoming visit, the Bears would have met in person with all three prospects ahead of the draft.
Bears' head coach Matt Eberflus has stated numerous times how adding an additional pass rusher to the defensive line to complement Montez Sweat is considered a major priority for the team and even Sweat himself has publicly expressed his desire of having another top player rushing the passer with him.
General manager Ryan Poles noted that the team will discuss whether to use the ninth overall pick on either a wide receiver, offensive tackle, or a pass rusher. The team's upcoming visit with Verse will go a long way toward coming to that decision.
