The Cleveland Browns now have six former Ohio State Buckeyes on their 90-man roster after their latest move.
Offensive guard Wyatt Davis is joining cornerback Denzel Ward, center Luke Wypler, offensive tackle Dawand Jones, safety Ronnie Hickman, and defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr.
In a corresponding move, the Browns opted to waive defensive tackle Jayden Peevy. Peevy was signed to a futures deal after the 2023 season after being on the Tennessee Titans and Carolina Panthers’ practice squads.
Davis was a third-round selection by the Minnesota Vikings back in the 2021 NFL Draft. As a freshman, Davis appeared in six games with the Vikings but was off the team by 2022. During the 2022 season, Davis played one game each with the Arizona Cardinals, New Orleans Saints, and the New York Giants.
The 6-foot-4, 315-pound Davis played in 27 games over his five seasons at Ohio State. He started for two seasons for the Buckeyes and dealt with a knee injury in 2020. As a recruit, Davis was a five-star recruit out of high school powerhouse St. John Bosco.
Cleveland doesn’t really have a shortage at guard right now after drafting Zak Zinter out of Michigan and signing a talented undrafted free agent Javion Cohen. Davis will have a chance to compete for a third-string job with Cohen and Germain Ifedi.
If Davis is unable to make the roster, he could be a guy that the Browns want to get to the practice squad. Davis fits the Browns’ tough run-blocking style and that is where he stands out.
By default, many Browns fans are Ohio State fans, and vice versa. There currently is no shortage of former Buckeyes on the roster, that is for sure.
