Tennessee Vols LHP Kirby Connell, who is well-known for his handle bar mustache, wore the freshest cleats you'll see in the College World Series on Sunday evening in UT's win against the North Carolina Tar Heels.
Connell entered the game in the top of the sixth inning in relief of starter Drew Beam, who pitched five innings while giving up one run on four hits.
When Connell took the mound in the top of the sixth, ESPN's cameras captured the unique cleats that the lefty was sporting. Connell wore a pair of orange and white Nike cleats that included a checkerboard pattern and a little mustache on the side.
Here's another look.
Nike could start selling those cleats and they'd almost certainly sell out in less than a day. Every kid playing travel baseball that roots for the Vols would practically be begging their parents to purchase those.
Maybe Nike will wise up and put a version of Connell's cleats on the product line. Either way, you won't see a fresher pair of cleats in Omaha than the ones Connell wore on Sunday.
And by the way, Connell pitched two strong innings of relief while wearing the cleats, giving up just one hit and no runs.
