San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch was keen to stress ahead of his pre-draft press conference that he did not want to discuss their negotiations with All-Pro wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk in public.
So naturally the first few questions he received pertained to the Aiyuk situation.
Aiyuk's contract saga has become one of the dominant storylines of the offseason, with a long-term contract for the 49ers' leading receiver seemingly nowhere close to being on the horizon.
But Lynch has been steadfast in maintaining his and the franchise's stance that the Niners have no desire to part with Aiyuk, despite trade speculation that his agent has continually refuted.
He re-emphasized that position emphatically on Monday before opening things up to questions.
"With BA, I've communicated on many occasions our wish, and our wish is that he's here with the Niners for the rest of his career," Lynch said.
Lynch then confirmed that he has received some trade calls on Aiyuk and that the wideout did not report for the start of the 49ers' offseason workout program.
Despite those developments, Lynch is clearly not expecting the 49ers' resolve around to be broken by a trade offer during the first round of the draft on Thursday.
Asked if there's any chance Aiyuk is not on the roster on Friday, Lynch replied: "I wouldn't anticipate that."
