The Miami Dolphins star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is coming off a strong 2023 campaign. He led the league in passing yards with 4,624 and tied with fellow AFC East rival Josh Allen for fifth in passing touchdowns (29). Tua had a great season, statistically.

Despite the overall success this past season, there is still room for growth for the Dolphins signal caller. More importantly, Tua could be on his way to an even better season.

While at the NFL Scouting Combine, I discovered that Tua has finally hired a personal quarterbacks coach. This was an interesting development to find out. He has not relied on a true offseason QB coach/trainer as most NFL QBs do.

Tua Tagovailoa's tight-knit circle

One thing about the Dolphins' star QB is, that he keeps a tight-knit. He has relied on his trainer Nick Hicks to improve his strength and physical build. The issue is, Hicks does not specialize in QB coaching that will improve throwing mechanics, footwork, etc.

Most star quarterbacks and even non-stars, employ a personal off-season QB coach/trainer. Well until 2024, Tua did not. This can improve his game and push him forward. Like, correcting slight overextension with his lead foot, and shortening his throwing motion to activate more of his arm without drawing back as far to generate force.

Although, Tua is not the most physically gifted quarterback on the planet, adjusting the simple, minute details can improve his game. This is critical heading into 2024 with a contract extension waiting in the wings, potentially. Regardless, it is good to see Tua working with a real QB trainer/coach. Is it enough to bypass a rookie QB in the 2024 NFL Draft? Time will tell.
