Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian is rolling with Quinn Ewers as his starting quarterback in 2024, which means Arch Manning, a former five-star recruit, will be the primary backup quarterback in Austin this fall.

But that doesn't mean that Manning won't be seeing the field in 2024.

Sarkisian made it clear this week that Manning, the nephew of former Super Bowl winning quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Eli Manning, will get some "definite playing time" in 2024.

I think for Arch, what a great opportunity as a backup now in his second season,” said Sarkisian during an appearance on All Facts No Brakes with Keyshawn Johnson. “Going to get some definite playing time and we’re looking forward to him doing that, watching his maturation and growth.”

“I think for the both of these guys, it’s going to be the best for them for their futures so they can play the best football,” added Sarkisian. “We’re fortunate. I’ve never not been anywhere where we haven’t had quarterbacks, so we’re fortunate to have those two guys right now as guys that can go out and lead our offense and lead our team.”

Manning is just one snap away from being "the guy" for Texas. But even if Manning ends up serving in backup role all season (which would mean Ewers stays healthy and plays at a high level), it sounds like he'll still see some playing time for the Longhorns in 2024.

Three of the Longhorns' first four games in 2024 are against Colorado State, UTSA, and ULM. Those games should provide an opportunity for Manning to receive some significant early-season snaps.
