It's no secret that the Kansas City Chiefs must invest in the wide receiver position in the 2024 NFL draft. The fans know it, the players know it, really the entire NFL knows it after the 2023 NFL season.
As the wide receivers took part in on-field workouts and drills at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, several Chiefs players took to X (formerly Twitter) to react to what they saw unfold. What was most notable to them? The speed with which the wide receivers from the University of Texas displayed.
Chiefs players react to 40-yard dash times from Texas WRs Adonai Mitchell and Xavier Worthy
Chiefs DE Charles Omenihu has a vested interest in players from his alma mater, the Univesity of Texas. He kicked things off on Saturday afternoon with his thoughts on Adonai "AD" Mitchell.
Mitchell's performance ranked in the 99th percentile in Travis May's A to Z Sports Athletic Composite. It's easy to see why:
ESPN's Matt Miller responded, "Nope. Wouldn’t be fair."
Omenihu had the perfect retort in the chamber, "We ain’t playing fair!"
"I second this notion," Former Chiefs and Texas DE Alex Okafor wrote in the comments. "Don’t think he makes it to 32 tho. . ."
Should Mitchell not make it to No. 32, there's another Texas wide receiver who ran a scorching fast 40-yard dash time. Xavier Worthy ran an official time of 4.21s, which is the fastest 40-yard dash time ever recorded at the NFL Scouting Combine, ousting John Ross, who ran a 4.22s 40-yard dash in 2017.
Worthy's unofficial time was 4.22s, which drew this reaction from Omenihu.
He even alerted his quarterback to the occurrence.
Patrick Mahomes' reaction is about what you'd expect, but he'll have to amend his tweet for the third time now with the official score.
The Chiefs are confirmed to have met with Worthy at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine. Could he be the pick for Kansas City at No. 32? Both Worthy and Mitchell have made their case, now it's just up to 31 other teams and Brett Veach to decide.
