The New York Giants are making another smart move for their defense. They're adding a veteran defensive back with plenty of versatility.
Former Patriots & Eagles safety Jalen Mills reached an agreement on a one-year deal with the Giants.
Mills was a chess piece for New England in 2023. He played all over the field for their defense.
The veteran wanted an opportunity to be a starting safety in the NFL. With New York, he may grab that opportunity and run with it after they let Xavier McKinney walk.
“Honestly, you can line me up anywhere in the backend. Line me up anywhere. I can do anything. I can play man, I can play zone, I can blitz, I can tackle. A lot of guys can’t do that. A lot of guys are simply a strong safety or free safety and that’s it. I can play both and play in the slot. I can do it all.”
Mills is an important addition to the Giants. They need more playmakers on the backend of the defense, and the defensive back fits that bill.
In three years with the Patriots, he totaled 123 tackles, 13 pass deflections, and two interceptions. With a larger role, expect him to emerge as an important piece for New York.
