The Las Vegas Raiders have made a move that most saw coming last season in Week 7 after the Raiders fell to the Chicago Bears, who were without Justin Fields.
Last season, the Raiders may have had the worst quarterback room in the entire NFL when you factor in all three guys. They paid Jimmy Garoppolo big bucks, and that failed, of course. They paid Brian Hoyer to come in and be the backup and drafted Aidan O'Connell in the fourth round.
All three played poorly, especially the two free-agent signees. Now, only one of them is left standing. After the Raiders had moved on from Jimmy Garoppolo, they made another move on Friday.
According to Adam Schefter, the Las Vegas Raiders have moved on and released Brian Hoyer, who was with the team for just one season and was signed by Josh McDaniels and his group.
The release of Hoyer means a $2.6 million cap hit for the 2024 season as part of the $4.205 million he was guaranteed at signing on a two-year deal. The Raiders wanted to move on, though, and likely knew they would in Week 7 when Tyson Badget, a former Division 3 quarterback, beat and outplayed Hoyer.
