Nico Iamaleava will enter the 2024 season as the Tennessee Vols' starting quarterback after making his first career start in the 2023 Citrus Bowl against the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Iamaleava looked sharp in the Vols' 35-0 win against Iowa in the Citrus Bowl. The former five-star recruit completed 12-of-19 passes for 151 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 27 yards and three touchdowns.
That strong performance combined with Nico's seemingly limitless potential in Josh Heupel's quarterback friendly offense has Iamaleava ranked at No. 25 in 247Sports' ranking of the top 25 quarterbacks in college football.
From 247Sports: No player inside the top 25 has played fewer college snaps than Iamaleava, so all receipts are welcome if Tennessee's former five-star signee is not an elite player this season. He should be a dynamic passer in Josh Heupel's multi-read looks and if Tennessee's wide receiver talent steps up, there's no reason Iamaleava can't be one of the nation's most accurate.
That's a fair ranking for Iamaleava. He could easily be No. 1 on this list by the end of the season — and I think most folks assume he'll be at least in the top five — but the California native has to prove it on the field first.
