The Dallas Cowboys made a risky gamble on Tuesday when they trimmed down the roster to 53 players by waiving undrafted rookie Isaiah Land as they're losing him to the Indianapolis Colts.
The talented edge rusher out of Florida A&M had a strong preseason, leading the Cowboys in pressures in the first two preseason games. However, with a loaded defensive line, the math game behind a 53-man roster made it tough for the team to keep him on the team.
The Colts picked up Land on waivers and the rookie will begin the season on their 53, per the NFL wire.
The Cowboys won't sweat it too much but it's still a painful loss knowing how much the coaching staff liked him. Earlier this year, defensive coordinator Dan Quinn admitted having discovered Land in 2021 when scouting safety Markquese Bell.
Even still, the Cowboys are more than set on the edge. The group is led by Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence with a strong rotation consisting of Sam Williams, Dorance Armstrong, and Dante Fowler Jr. behind them.
Last year, the Cowboys had one of the most ravenous pass rushes in the entire NFL as they led the league in pressure rate. They're not likely to feel the loss of Land all that much.
Down the road, the Cowboys could reunite with their guy as they're surely not going to lose track of him. For now, we're wishing the best to Land in a new phase of his career.
