Even as he has not yet donned a Baltimore Ravens jersey in a game, Odell Beckham Jr. has already left quite a strong first impression on many within the organization, including team general manager Eric DeCosta.
Beckham, who missed the entirety of the 2022 season recovering from successful ACL surgery, did not feature in any of the Ravens’ three preseason games. He did receive the green light to take part in the Ravens’ mandatory minicamp schedule, and he went on to take part in training camp for the first time in two years.
For DeCosta, it has been so far, so good with Beckham’s early run in the Ravens organization.
“He's been great," DeCosta said during a press conference on Friday. "I would say he's probably exceeded my expectations to this point. … His body is in very good shape.
"He takes care of his body. He worked extremely hard this offseason. His attitude is awesome. He's a leader. He's a first-in-line guy. He's a do-the-right-thing guy. He's just been great."
All eyes now turn to the Ravens’ upcoming 2023 campaign and just which version of Beckham will the AFC North powerhouse get early in the season. The three-time Pro Bowler is cleared to return to in-game action, and he did spend plenty of time over the past months building early chemistry with Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, but there sure will be early concerns of rust for the veteran wideout.
