New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones got his first taste of football this year in the team's preseason victory over the Carolina Panthers on Friday night. For Jones, it was his first time on the field since signing his $160 million contract earlier this offseason.
The Giants signal caller briefly played in the team's second preseason game after missing the opener. But he made his snaps count, even accounting for points on the scoreboard.
Jones completed eight of his nine pass attempts. He threw for 69 yards, highlighted by a touchdown toss to tight end Daniel Bellinger. It was exactly what the Giants and fans wanted to see ahead of the regular season.
For the quarterback, Jones was excited to get back into action. In fact, he liked what he saw from himself and the offense during his limited time on the field, creating some optimism for week one.
"I felt good. I thought we all felt pretty good," Jones said after the preseason win. "I thought we executed well. Guys were in the right spots and the guys up front did a good job protecting. Yeah, I thought it was good."
Jones connected with offseason addition Darren Waller three times for 30 yards, an average of a first down when targeting the Pro Bowl tight end. Perhaps a sign of things to come when the games matter in the win-loss column.
"He showed up there for us a good bit. He's been big for us all camp," Jones said of Waller after the preseason victory over the Panthers. "Yeah, he played well again [Friday night] for sure."
The New York Giants turned heads and advanced in the NFC Playoffs last season. Now with Waller and a confident Jones, the Giants have the opportunity to make even more noise this year.
Giants hit a home run in offseason thanks to one big move
The early returns of the New York Giants trading for Darren Waller are already very positive ahead of the NFL regular season.
