Cleveland Browns will have their final dress rehearsal on Saturday against the Kansas City Chiefs, then it is time for the real thing.
But before then, the Browns need to get healthy in a couple of spots.
On Tuesday, head coach Kevin Stefanski gave injury updates on RB Jerome Ford and RT Jack Conklin.
When asked if Ford will be ready for the season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals, Stefanski had no sure word, though he is comfortable with where Ford is at currently.
“I don’t want to go that far ahead,” Stefanski spoke. “I think he’s making positive strides. So, really comfortable with where he is.”
If the Browns don’t have Ford in Week 1 against the Bengals, it looks like Demetric Felton could be the backup. At least to this point, Felton is the one taking the most reps. Cleveland has Jordan Wilkins, too, who they recently signed.
“He’s a pro,” Stefanski said of Wilkins. “He’s played in some systems that I think he can translate what we’re doing offensively, he can translate into his previous terms. So, I think he’s coming along. We’ll continue to work him in there.”
Conklin remains in the concussion protocol, despite being out at practice for the second time today. He’s allowed to participate in some light things, of course, but no contact. Conkin suffered the concussion last Monday in a joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles.
“He’s progressing. He’s progressing well and then hopefully he’ll be out of it soon.”
In the meantime, it’s been rookie Dawand Jones out at right tackle. He’s seven seen some reps at left tackle but Stefanski said that
“I think it’s just the natural time for those types of things,” Stefanski said. “As you get into this part of camp, you’re going to try some guys in different positions because it helps with roster flexibility, all those things – but it doesn’t mean that’s where they’re going to land.”
The Browns will take on the Chiefs at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Right now, there’s no word on if Conklin will suit up for that one. If he is cleared, expect him to be with the rest of the starters.

This is a good review for a player fighting for a roster spot.
