Tennessee will wear the throwbacks in home games against the Houston Texans and the Atlanta Falcons.
The game against Houston, specifically, has the potential to get contentious thanks to some Texans fans who don't feel like the Titans should wear the Oilers throwbacks (even though the Titans were the Tennessee Oilers for two seasons).
Former Titans/Oilers head coach Jeff Fisher recently joined the Green Lights with Chris Long podcast and he was asked about his thoughts on the Titans wearing the Oilers throwbacks.
"We were the Oilers and became the Titans, so if you want a throwback, you know, you want to wear a throwback jersey or uniforms? I would think [that would be ok]," said Fisher. "I mean, they (Titans) own the rights to it. I'm sure that the family and Bud [Adams] didn't leave it in Houston — he didn't leave anything in Houston. But the Titans are the Titans. You're still the Titans."
"I could see doing it just as a throwback, just memories," added Fisher.
Fisher also noted that he thought the Oilers had some pretty sweet uniform combinations before moving to Nashville (he also praised the Titans' uniforms from over the years).
So there you have it. Fisher is on board with the Titans wearing the Oilers throwback jerseys. And considering he spent several years with the Oilers in Houston before the franchise moved north to Nashville, I'd say his opinion on the subject matters more than most.
New Oilers uniform will push another Titans’ look out of the rotation
The Tennessee Titans are throwing it back to their days as the Oilers with their newest (oldest) look. But they’ll stop wearing another combo as a result.
