Will Cowboys QB Trey Lance play vs. the Raiders?
No. The recently acquired Trey Lance won't be suiting up after the Cowboys traded for him on Friday.
At least, that's according to David Moore from the Dallas Morning News, which reported the Cowboys are playing Will Grier for the entirety of the game despite letting him know he won't be a part of the squad moving forward.
In other words, on Saturday night, Grier will be playing quarterback for the other 31 NFL teams around the league while Cooper Rush, Trey Lance, and Dak Prescott gear up for the regular season. Both Lance and Rush are expected to make the 53-man roster with the Cowboys carrying three total.
Markquese Bell's big game
Following a season-ending injury to LB DeMarvion Overshown, Cowboys safety Markquese Bell is taking on linebacker duties ahead of the preseason finale. As a hybrid player, he could go a long way in helping provide depth at linebacker. So far, he's played all over the field this preseason and I'm looking forward to seeing if he plays as an off-ball linebacker on Saturday night.
Based on the team's needs, he appears to be on track to make the 53-man roster. However, you never know what can go down on cutdown day, especially when somebody like Juanyeh Thomas is also pushing for a place on the team.
3 Players to watch
- EDGE Isaiah Land: The UDFA keeps winning in the preseason. At this point, you've got to project him as a 53-man roster member. But Land can't let his foot off the gas now. As a UDFA, he must keep impressing.
- OL T.J. Bass: Josh Ball has done enough this preseason to keep himself in the conversation. But rookie T.J. Bass is gunning for his job as he's been getting first-team reps at right guard in the last few practices. He could solidify his candidacy with a strong game on Saturday.
- CB Eric Scott Jr.: Yes! We're doing three rookies on this week's version of players to watch. And that's because sixth-round draft pick Eric Scott Jr. hasn't had the best August out there. As other cornerbacks rise on the depth chart, the draft pick's job is somewhat at risk. Despite the fact that the Cowboys traded up for him in April, his job isn't safe if he doesn't show more this weekend. Playing against preseason standout QB Aidan O'Connell will provide a unique opportunity.
