It appears that Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid is taking a cautious approach in preseason Week 3.

While Big Red told reporters during the practice week that he was undecided on playing Patrick Mahomes and other starters, a new report suggests that fans will be waiting until Sept. 7 to see several star players make their 2023 NFL season debut at Arrowhead Stadium.

NFL Network's James Palmer reports that Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Nick Bolton, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling will all sit out of preseason Week 3 against the Cleveland Browns. The players were getting some stretching and warm-ups in ahead of the game, but they won't suit up and play on Saturday.

Fans will hardly be upset to see these players sit in what amounts to a meaningless exhibition game. It'll provide a good opportunity for some of the backups to get time with the starting unit and settle some of the remaining roster battles. Keep in mind that we still might see Isiah Pacheco and Tershawn Wharton for the first time this week.

Other players who aren't expected to play on Saturday include injured players such as OL Nick Allegretti (shoulder), DT Matt Dickerson (toe), CB Nic Jones (hand), WR Nikko Remigio (shoulder), CB L’Jarius Sneed (knee), and WR Kadarius Toney (knee).

DE George Karlaftis was sick during the practice week and it's unclear if he'll be able to suit up and play on Saturday.

DT Chris Jones continues to hold out and won't play. He'll now have missed the entirety of training camp and the preseason.
