The 2022 NFL rushing leader has settled his contract dispute with the Las Vegas Raiders.
As first reported by NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Raiders have agreed to terms with RB Josh Jacobs on a newly reworked one-year deal worth up to $12 million. Las Vegas had placed the franchise tag on Jacobs, but he had not signed the tag and was holding out for a new deal during training camp and the preseason.
This one-year deal is reminiscent of the deal agreed upon between the Giants and RB Saquon Barkley.
The new deal basically gives Jacobs a $1.8 million base salary raise over the $10 million that Jacobs would have earned on the franchise tag in 2023. He can earn an additional $200K in incentives to reach the $12M max value on the contract according to Pelissero.
It's possible that part of an agreement here includes Las Vegas being unable to place the franchise tag on Jacobs for another season, but that remains to be seen. No matter what, he's set to end his holdout and show up to play in Week 1 of the regular season.
Jacobs was the fulcrum of the Raiders' offense in 2022, with 340 carries for over 1,600 yards and 12 rushing touchdowns. As they begin a new era with Jimmy Garoppolo leading the way, Jacobs will be a pivotal component to the team's success for at least one more season.
