A former Tennessee player has gone from Rocky Top to the Rocky Mountains.
LB Juwan Mitchell is reportedly now headed to Colorado to play for Deion Sanders' Buffaloes after transferring to Arizona State earlier this year.
Mitchell transferred to Tennessee from Texas after leading the Longhorns in tackles during the 2020 season. He missed most of 2021 with a shoulder injury, but appeared in 10 of 13 games in 2022 and saw the most snaps at linebacker behind Jeremy Banks and Aaron Beasley. He totaled 43 combined tackles and 1 interception on the season.
Perhaps his most memorable play in Knoxville was against Kentucky last season. With Kentucky driving in the red zone down 20-6 late in the second quarter, Neiko Slaughter crashed into Kentucky's Dane Key, sending the ball flying and into the hands of Mitchell, who returned it 48 yards.
In a season full of fun games and impactful plays, that's one that is probably high on many people's lists.
Mitchell entered the transfer portal in early January, choosing Arizona State. However, just weeks before the start of the season, Arizona State announced that Mitchell was no longer a member of the team. Head coach Kenny Dillingham had some harsh words about Mitchell on the way out the door, too, stressing the importance of culture.
Now Mitchell will get a chance to finish his career at his fourth FBS stop in his career. There should be no lack of attention paid to the Colorado Buffaloes this year with Sanders as its head coach and the school making waves all offseason on social media as Sanders worked to revamp the entire program.
Good or bad, the Buffaloes will be must-watch TV this fall, and it looks like Mitchell will have another chance to make some memorable moments in his final collegiate season.
