Football is a grueling sport and that was on display yesterday in the Cleveland Browns and Kansas City Chiefs game.
On the first play of the game, the Browns lost Pro Bowl returner Jakeem Grant Sr. to what is believed to be a broken patella. Now, it’s known that LB Jordan Kunaszyk has suffered a serious injury as well.
Kunaszyk suffered an MCL that usually sidelined players for at least six weeks. The Browns will likely be without their special teams linebacker until Week 4 at the earliest. In Week 4, the Browns play the Baltimore Ravens before their BYE week. Following the week off, the Browns host the San Francisco 49ers, which could be an ideal point to return if all heals well.
It was likely that Kunaszyk had done enough to make the roster. Last year with the Browns, the 26-year-old linebacker appeared in 15 games. Making a total of two starts, Kunaszyk tallied 22 tackles and played in nearly 80 percent of the special teams snaps.
Now with Kunaszyk out, the Browns could opt to keep LB Matthew Adams. Like Kunaszyk, Adams is primarily a special teams linebacker but can provide depth on the defense, too.
With the untimely injury, the Browns now have decisions to make ahead of cutdowns.
Browns final 53-man roster prediction
With cuts coming, here is one last prediction on the Browns’ 53-man roster.
