The Detroit Lions just put out their first big wave of cuts on Sunday and among the cuts was veteran left tackle Germain Ifedi. The Lions are in need of offensive line depth and they gave Ifedi a lot of shots to show that he could be that. He played 114 snaps during the preseason. He never quite showed that he could still be the player that started 60 games for the Seahawks.
What does this mean for the Lions offensive line going forward? That's the mystery at this point. Matt Nelson remains with the team for now and there's other options like trading for tackle depth, hoping Colby Sorsdal or Halapulivaati Vaitai can slide over when needed.
The other option is undrafted rookie Connor Galvin out of Baylor. We laid out our reasons why he could be a dark horse Sunday morning. He's now a name to watch going forward.
As for Ifedi, now that he's been released, he's free to sign with any team he wants immediately. There's a solid chance that he'll find a spot to play this season with a team that has more of a need for a tackle than the Lions do.
There's still plenty of cuts left to go. Stay locked to our cut tracker below. We are constantly updating it.
