This is a bit of a surprise move by the Detroit Lions. The Lions waived undrafted rookie receiver Dylan Drummond on Monday.
Drummond was one of the big underdog stories of the offseason. The undrafted rookie out of Eastern Michigan went from not getting signed after the draft or getting an invite to a camp to wowing at a tryout at the Lions rookie mini camp and earning a shot to maybe make the Lions 53 man roster.
As Birkett notes, Drummond should be someone the Lions bring back to be on their practice squad. He'll have to clear waiver first. He should do that and should be back with the Lions as early as Wednesday afternoon.
In terms of what this means for the rest of the receiver group, we don't know. The Lions have recently talked about seeking out receiver depth, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them do just that in the coming days. We'll have more news on cuts as they come in. We'll also keep you updated on Drummond's status with the team.
