Ahead of the Week 1 season opener for the Cleveland Browns, their opponent is dealing with an injury issue that could be impactful.
Rotational edge rusher Joseph Ossai has a high ankle sprain that is going to sideline him for a bit and his Week 1 status is doubtful, per Kelsey Conway.
Ossai flashed with an interception in the preseason and was set to be the Bengals’ third defensive end behind starters Trey Hendrickson and Sam Hubbard.
“It's an unfortunate reality for Ossai, who was set to enter his third season fully healthy. He missed all of his rookie year with a meniscus injury, but showed promise and suffered multiple injuries during the 2022 season. He was slated to play a significant role in the defensive line rotation and take another step in his development. Now, he may miss extended time.” – John Sheeran AtoZ Sports Cincinnati.
Ossai missed his entire rookie year due to a meniscus injury after being a third-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. In 2022, Ossai had 17 tackles and 3.5 sacks as a rotational piece in 16 games.
A talented player who is very athletic at the position, this is not good news for Ossai. High ankle sprains can linger around and he will likely be out multiple weeks it seems.
Denzel Ward’s health is becoming a real point of concern for the Browns
The Browns have to be concerned about a cornerstone of their defense.
