Former Tennessee Vols linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin made his impact felt early on Thursday night in the NFL season-opener between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Detroit Lions.

Reeves-Maybin, a key special teams player for the Lions (Reeves-Maybin was named a captain for Detroit earlier this week), was the ballcarrier on a risky fake punt in the first quarter.

With the Lions facing a fourth down on their own 17-yard line, the last thing anyone was expecting was a fake punt.

But that's exactly what Detroit called. And thanks to Reeves-Maybin, the fake punt worked.

Reeves-Maybin took the direct snap and picked up just enough yards for the first down, extending the Lions' possession.

The Lions finished off the drive with a touchdown to take an early 7-0 lead against the Chiefs.
