Nick Bosa practiced on Thursday without having officially signed his record-setting contract extension.

The delay in him doing so is now over after the 49ers announced the reported five-year deal worth $170 million with $122.5 million guaranteed. It makes Bosa the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history, his average annual salary of $34 million far surpassing the previous high of $31.66 million for Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald. The full details of Bosa's contract structure have yet to be made public.

Upon signing the deal, Bosa made it clear he intends to stay with San Francisco for the entirety of his career, which he hopes will include several championships.

In a video message posted on social media, Bosa said: "Faithful, just signed, I'm so excited to be a Niner for life. Let's go win as many rings as we can."

The 49ers hopes of finally winning their sixth Super Bowl title in franchise history are vastly increased with the reigning Defensive Player of the Year on the field, Bosa having signed in the nick of time to feature in Week 1 against the Steelers.

Bosa practiced on a side field following the end of his prolonged holdout on Thursday. He did not do any team work. His only opportunity to get a team practice in ahead of the season opener will come on Friday.

But there is little doubt Bosa, despite missing all of training camp and preseason, will have a significant role to play as he and Niners start their latest quest to achieve the ultimate goal this weekend.
