On the heels of a hectic offseason, the Arizona Cardinals will open up their 2023 campaign with a road matchup against the Washington Commanders on Sunday.
As was the case last year, the Cardinals enter this season being an unpopular pick to win the NFC West. This all comes as the Cardinals shied away from being a big-spender in free agency and as quarterback Kyler Murray is set to miss the early stages of the season as he continues to recover from successful ACL surgery.
The Cardinals are a heavy favorite to finish the year with the No. 1 overall pick in next year’s NFL Draft, but this is a team that sure has what it takes to regularly play the role of spoiler throughout the season.
Cardinals vs. Commanders odds, moneyline, over/under
The Commanders are currently listed as the betting favorites to defeat the Cardinals, according to BetGM NFL odds.
Spread: Commanders (-7)
Moneyline: Commanders (-300); Cardinals (+240)
Over/under: 38
Cardinals vs. Commanders pick
Commanders 27, Cardinals 13
There will be plenty of storylines to watch in this NFC encounter, including the duel between the Commanders’ vaunted front seven and the Cardinals’ new-look offensive line.
The Commanders are just coming off of a 2022 season in which they tallied 43 sacks, and they did so with Chase Young being sidelined for the majority of the campaign as he recovered from successful ACL surgery. On the other hand, the Cardinals are set to roll out three new starters within their offensive line, including rookie right tackle Paris Johnson Jr.
Jonathan Allen and company should have a field day against Arizona’s offensive line. In the end, Washington should come away with a convincing double-digit win over Arizona to open up the Sam Howell era on the right track.
