The holdout saga continues for Kansas City Chiefs DT Chris Jones, with the latest news coming by way of interviews with Brett Veach. He still hasn't reported to training camp, and with three practices remaining after preseason Week 1, it doesn't look like he will. At this point, the All-Pro has racked up over $1 million in fines as he seeks a long-term contract extension from the team.
Another consistent part of this process has been Jones' fondness for sending cryptic messages on social media. His latest post on Twitter (X) read, "Stay strong & carry on…" and prompted one Chiefs fan to take matters into her own hands.
Twitter (X) user @ChiefsNana replied to the tweet begging him to quit the cryptic messages and just give her a yes or no answer regarding his future with the team.
Jones responded: "Okay let's dead it. What specifically do you want to know? (I) have time for one question?"
She asked: "Ok sir, will you be returning for more years with the Chiefs?"
His response is exactly what many around the Chiefs Kingdom need to hear:
"Im under contract for one more year! I'm no fortune teller. Let's enjoy this year."
Contract negotiations in the NFL can be fickle things and even Jones doesn't quite know what the future has in store. What he does know is that he's under contract for one more season and he intends to make the most out of that season. That means getting back to the Super Bowl and winning it in consecutive years.
This is all to say, if Jones isn't letting his contract situation and holdout worry him, why are you?
