The Denver Broncos QB Russell Wilson needs to be better this season, plain and simple. Sean Payton opened up to the media about what his expectations are for the franchise quarterback heading into their first preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals.
In March, Payton opened up months ago about a huge organizational change when it comes to the preseason. The previous regime, under Nathanial Hacket, rested starters which many thought was a detriment to the growth of the team.
Now that there's a new sheriff in town. Payton wanted to assure everyone that starters would be playing. When talking to the media, Payton didn't hold back when talking about Wilson and what his thoughts were.
Payton opened, when asked specifically about Wilson's role in the preseason, "Same thing I'm hoping to see from the rest of the starters."
The head coach continued, "You want to get in there, and you want to see clean execution and timing. Most importantly for the quarterback is that you're moving the ball and giving yourself a chance to score. I think that will be important for everyone, not just him."
Wilson, although starting slow, has been improving almost every day in camp, putting together some monster practices in consecutive days. From long bombs to Jerrry Jeudy to getting more acclimated with Courtland Sutton in the offense, this team looks different.
As long as Wilson can throw more touchdowns than he has bathrooms in his house before the third to last week of the season, it will be a marked improvement.
The fanbase seems mostly disinterested in Wilson and the drama connected to him, something that Payton focused on during the offseason to change things around. Wilson had statistically one of his worst seasons throughout his career.
The only way to go is up, right?
