The Denver Broncos just cannot stay healthy. Sean Payton is doing everything he can to put a competitive team on the field, but some things are just simply out of his control. To add insult to literal injury, the team lost in heartbreaking fashion with a near last-second touchdown and two-point conversion to the Arizona Cardinals.
Fans were hoping that coming into the season that the football gods would treat their team better, that the injury bug wouldn't hit and they could build a strong unit across the board. That hasn't been the case. They not only had to suffer the brutal loss but had to deal with a string of unfortunate injuries as well.
Before today, there was a slew of players who are out for the season including WR Tim Patrick and LB Jonas Griffith. Outside of that, RT Mike McGlinchey is going to miss time, CB Riley Moss needed some work done, and WR Brandon Johnson was dinged up.
Now, there's been even more injuries just one game into the NFL preseason. Throughout the contest, some big names along with rising camp stars went down with injuries.
Rachel Strand, Denver Broncos Beat Reporter for Clutch Points, broke down the injuries and what it looked like for their return.
DT DJ Jones, an important part of the defensive line was evaluated for a concussion and did not return. The defensive line already has huge question marks and it may be the second-weakest unit behind perhaps the offensive line. Missing Jones undoubtedly hurts, but they can hopefully get him back well before the season begins.
WLB Nik Bonitto suffered a hip injury and his injury designation is unknown at the time of writing. Bonitto has been having a solid camp and is pushing for some more playing time. Bonnito is hoping to turn heads in his sophomore season and wants to make a difference as a pass rusher.
ILB Josey Jewell was the least concerning as he was reportedly poked in the eye and shouldn't miss substantial time.
Regardless, it's yet another unfortunate development on a team that just cannot find a way to stay healthy. Here's hoping they get the rest they need and will be back on the field in no time.
Broncos RT Mike McGlinchey to miss a couple weeks with a knee sprain
The Denver Broncos just cannot stay healthy, an unfortunate trend that began last season. For the team to succeed, they will need everyone to get back to a full bill of health.
