The Dallas Cowboys dropped its preseason opener versus the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday. With that said, there were some positive developments to take away from all of the action.
Rookie DeMarvion Overshown was one of the biggest bright spots on Saturday. Dallas drafted the versatile defender out of Texas in the third-round back in April. On paper, he seems like a player that should fit in well with defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.
Overshown was active all over the field during the snaps that he played versus the Jaguars. He made six total tackles that included multiple third down stops that showcased his ability to be a reliable playmaker.
A native of Texas, Overshown is no stranger to the Dallas Cowboys. It hasn't taken him long to feel appreciative of the opportunity to play for the organization. In fact, his postgame comments will fire up the fan base.
“Putting the jersey on and putting my arm bands on and my sleeve and realizing I’m fitting to do this for the Dallas Cowboys, a lot of people dream about that,” Overshown said. “I’m part of that 1 percent that got the chance to do that. I wouldn’t want to be nowhere else.”
A defensive chess piece that played safety and linebacker on the collegiate level, Overshown has the talent and versatility to fill multiple roles for Quinn and the Cowboys.
"I was told if you play linebacker in (Dan Quinn’s) defense, you play more than one position," said Overshown. "I know DQ has a lot of things ahead for me, and I’m ready for the challenge.”
Still early in his Dallas Cowboys career, DeMarvion Overshown is wasting no time in impressing on and off the field. He already seems to be an ideal fit for Dallas and what Quinn wants to do defensively.
