Colts veteran named to NFL’s Top 100
The NFL's top 100 is a list compiled each season that allows players across the NFL to rank their top 100 players in the league. The NFL then takes the averages of the lists submitted to release the consensus top 100 players. This year's has begun to be released, and the Colts have now seen their 1st player of the year named.
Deforest Buckner
On Wednesday, July 26th, just as the Colts training camp released for the day, the NFL released 80-71 on this year's NFL Top 100. Colts defensive tackle DeForest Buckner would be the last name revealed on the day, coming in at number 71.
This year marks the 4th year Buckner has been named to the NFL's Top 100:
- 2020: 55
- 2021: 27
- 2022: 66
- 2023: 71
The Colts down year in 2023 may have led to Buckner's lowest ranking he's ever earned on the list, but it was not able to fully take him off all together. Last season Buckner had 8.0 sacks, two forced fumbles, 44 solo tackles, and 77 total tackles.
Multiple of Buckner's peers appeared in the NFL's video piece announcing Buckner as number 71. Two of note being Raiders Maxx Crosby and the Ravens Marlon Humphrey. When speaking about Buckner, Crosby shared "He's so dominant at the point of attack he determines what happens in the fight all the time". And when Humphrey spoke about Buckner, he said, "You dream of playing with guys like that. That when you cover, you don't have to cover for long. There's not going to be much scrambling they won't be able to get out much."
