When building a roster, especially one around Jimmy Garoppolo as your quarterback, the number two guy at the position is very important. The Las Vegas Raiders have two guys who could be fighting for that spot.
Before Sunday, we were almost sure it was Brian Hoyer's job to lose. However, Aidan O'Connell did more than turn some heads in the 34-7 win over the San Francisco 49ers. He ran the offense to perfection, engineering several scoring drives without making hardly any mistakes, as the 83 completion percentage is further proof of that.

O'Connell is about as humble as they come. I'm not saying he would be ecstatic to be the third-string quarterback, but he would certainly just be grateful he has the opportunity to be in the league. O'Connell is humbly attributing some of his success from Subnday to his veteran quarterbacks.
"Yeah, when you play sometimes during practice, you might not get a rep of a specific play that you're going to run in the game," O'Connell explained to the media. "So, you have to learn through watching somebody else. So, I try on every rep to act like I'm in there to go through it like I'm in there, even if I'm not in practice.
"And, like I said, those guys do a good job. They don't have to, but they do, they talk to me, and they don't give me the cold shoulder and just let me figure it out for [myself]. They slow it down for me when they need to and help me a lot. So, I appreciate them a lot."
But, since O'Connell won't do it, we will brag for him.
It's very hard to come into your first game ever in the NFL, preseason or not, and dominate the first half the way he did. He was precise, his decision-making was on point, and he did exactly what he needed to, nothing more, nothing less.
If he can continue to put together performances like this, there is no telling what will happen.
