The 49ers believe they would have beaten the Eagles in the NFC Championship Game last season had Brock Purdy not suffered an elbow injury. The bookmakers clearly aren't so sure.
Heading into the season regarded as a Super Bowl contender once again, the 49ers, per DraftKings Sportsbook, are favored in all but one of their regular-season games.
That lone game: the Week 13 rematch with the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field.
San Francisco is 2.5-point underdogs for the return to Philadelphia, though that does not necessarily indicate the bookies believe the Niners will lose.
Indeed, with home advantage traditionally worth around 2.5 to 3 points in spread betting, that opening line suggests a potentially pivotal game in the NFC playoff race would be viewed as a toss up.
It is the great unknown of San Francisco's 2022 season. The Niners will never know for sure if they would have prevailed had Purdy not torn an elbow ligament on their first offensive series.
One thing that is certain is that the Eagles and 49ers are still viewed as the two best teams in the NFC. On paper, they are remarkably well matched, but there's still a long time to wait to find out if the Niners are capable of exacting revenge on Philadelphia on the road.
