Before the 2023 NFL Draft kicked off, no one knew the Las Vegas Raiders would draft Aidan O'Connell. Most people thought the Raiders were after one of the top four quarterbacks in the draft. However, three of the four were taken before the Raiders even had a shot. Of course, while they won't admit it, that's the biggest reason they ended up going defense at pick No. 7.

Some fans didn't like the pick, and it made things worse when they found out that he would be representing Derek Carr's old number in Las Vegas. Carr, one of the franchise's best quarterbacks ever, is now in New Orleans.

However, after O'Connell's preseason debut last Sunday, some fans have changed the way they look at the rookie quarterback. Also, now we hear some of his teammates talk about him differently.

"He's a dawg. He is a dawg," wide receiver Deandre Carter told the media on Wednesday. "He's a smart kid, real calm, cool collected, you know, for being a rookie, you guys saw that in the preseason game, and just the guys in the huddle said he took, took command of it, and that's you look for as a quarterback. So I'm excited about that."

Aidan O'Connell had another great practice on Wednesday, despite the team starting slow when it came time for the 11-on-11s against the Los Angeles Rams. From everything we are hearing out of camp, O'Connell is putting together a really good rookie offseason.

The rookie went 15-18 in their win over the San Francisco 49ers and ran the offense to perfection. Two of those "misses" were receivers' dropped balls, so he could have gone 17-18. O'Connell is playing well right now, and if he keeps it up, the Raiders could have something special.
