Nashville SC is looking to claim its first win in a major tournament on Saturday, with a matchup against Lionel Messi and Inter Miami in the Leagues Cup final.

The Leagues Cup is an annual soccer tournament that includes teams from the MLS and from Liga MX, with every team in each league competing. The tournament began in the groups stage, with three teams competing in the same group. The top two teams advanced to the Round of 32, while third was eliminated. From there, the knockout rounds began, with each team looking to earn a spot in the finals and win the ultimate prize.

Along with earning a spot in the finals, both teams have also qualified for the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup, which is another annual competition held with clubs from Mexico, the United States, and Canada. One more spot is up for grabs in the third-place game.

Messi, the world's top soccer player, joined Inter Miami this summer with a contract that keeps the Argentinian super star in Major League Soccer through the 2025 season.

Before the Messi signing, Miami sat in last place in the MLS Eastern Conference, with Nashville in fourth.

With Messi's arrival, Miami has played its way into the final by averaging 3.5 goals per game during the six Leagues Cup matches. Nashville has scored 15 goals in six games, but prides itself on a stout defense.

Star power in this game doesn't end with Messi. Nashville has the reigning MLS MVP in Hany Mukhtar, who has continued his high level of play. Sam Surridge signed with SC in late July, and has gotten off to the hottest start possible with three goals and an assist in his three matches for the boys in gold.

The winner of the Leagues Cup will earn a spot directly into the Round of 16, while the runner-up and third place team will enter in the first round
