Last year, one of the more high-profile fights at 49ers training camp was between All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner and wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.
On the eve of veterans reporting for camp this year, Aiyuk let San Francisco's much-vaunted defense know he will not be letting up in practice.
In a tongue-in-cheek post on his Instagram story, Aiyuk made clear what his attitude will be when he goes against his teammates on the defensive side of the ball.
Second-year defensive end Drake Jackson saw the funny side of Aiyuk's warning, adding a laughing emoji as he responded: "That's a little harsh."
While there was clearly an element of humor behind Aiyuk's post, there is no doubt he has grown into more confident and aggressive wide receiver, with that approach paying dividends as he recorded his first 1,000-yard season in 2022.
Aiyuk, who also scored eight receiving touchdowns last year, has all the tools in his locker to make further strides and become a Pro Bowl player in 2023. The 49ers don't want training camp fights, but they'll gladly accept some jawing with defenders if Aiyuk continues to ascend and firmly establishes himself as one of the game's best at the receiver position.
