The Denver Broncos have a player who will benefit greatly from some recent NFL news.
On Tuesday, the Dallas Cowboys gave cornerback Trevon Diggs a huge contract extension. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Diggs' contract is a five-year contract extension worth $97 million as he becomes one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the league. He gets a max value of $104 million.
It may not seem like it, but that is huge for one Broncos player.
Pat Surtain is a top-three cornerback in the league. You could argue he is number one, and most people wouldn't be upset by that. He can do things no one else can do, and he really doesn't have a weakness. Can he still get better? Of course, he is only 23 years old and is entering his third year – which means something important.
If Diggs, who may be a top 10 cornerback in the league, but the gap between him and Surtain is pretty big, can get that type of deal, imagine what Surtain can get.
The Bronco's best player, Pat Surtain, is looking to get a five-year floor contract of $97 million. That would be considered a lowball offer to many, and here is why.
Sure, Surtain is much, much better; it isn't even close, honestly, but also, Surtain isn't due for an extension for two more years. According to Spotrac, Surtain isn't due an extension until 2025 and, even then, could end up playing on the franchise team and getting the deal done in 2026, which would only push his value up, and the cornerback market.
By that time, he could be looking at something way more lucrative and very well could end up being the highest-paid cornerback in the league.
Broncos CB Patrick Surtain can still ‘improve a lot more’
The Denver Broncos best player is only going to get better from here.
