The Denver Broncos were already in a difficult position with their defensive line before the news broke that DE Eyioma Uwazurike would be suspended indefinitely for violating the NFL's gambling policy.
Now, with camp set to begin and a question mark at the position, luckily there are a few big-name players who could immediately come in and make a difference. In fact, they could help take this team to an entirely new level.
Sean Payton and George Paton have continued to shake things up since their arrival, and they may need to do it once again after the Uwazurike news. While unfortunate, this comes at the perfect time.
Some veteran players who have been waiting on the sidelines, hoping for a contract, could be getting a call from the Denver Broncos front office sooner rather than later.
Specifically, Denver could bring in former Pro Bowl DE Yannick Ngakoue. Denver, even before the suspension came down, needed some help on the defensive line. While the team made a few splashes by bringing in Zach Allen and Frank Clark, they could use another boost.
Looking back on last season, Denver struggled. While the same could be said for almost every aspect of their game, they just weren't able to bring down the quarterback as the season carried on. After trading away Bradley Chubb and losing Dre'Mont Jones to injury, the team was only able to manage three sacks in the final three games. While sacks aren't the end-all-be-all for a successful defensive line, the unit inarguably struggled.
Ngakoue just makes so much sense. Outside of being a dominant force on the line, totaling 65 sacks and 202 combined tackles in his impressive career, Ngakoue has a history with the Broncos organization. Specifically, George Paton.
Paton had been part of the Vikings front office when they had traded for Ngakoue which would provide a familiar face if nothing else.
Payton isn't afraid of shaking things up or making a splash. With a clear need on the roster and not a lot of time to think of solutions, don't be surprised if they make another offseason splash signing.
Sean Payton already making one major change for Broncos QB Russell Wilson
There was one major takeaway from today's introductory press conference for new Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton. Change. Change is own the horizon inside the building for the Broncos. Their players will feel it, and fans will probably be happy to hear all of this after last season's debacle with Nathaniel Hackett. One of […]
