After Friday's practice, Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel detailed the team's decision to release offensive lineman Jamarco Jones. The move came after multiple incidents during practice. Jones was reportedly involved in two heated scuffles, and ultimately, the team felt that they should move on from the veteran. He was in line to compete for a starting role at offensive tackle.
"We all have a responsibility to protect the team and do what is in the best interest of the team." Titans HC Mike Vrabel via Jim Wyatt
Vrabel has known Jones since high school. Accordingly, he was asked if the decision was a hard one. He said that protecting the team isn't hard. A strong stance from a coach that isn't afraid to speak his mind.
It was the right perspective for Vrabel, too. He was blunt about the subject, eliminating any personal emotion or connection that he had to Jones.
Titans fans assuredly appreciate his honesty and commitment to the team, as a whole. There's no sugarcoating or bias in the locker room from Vrabel for the Titans.
The Titans will continue to look for depth on the offensive line. Young players will compete during camp, and they could look to add one or two more veterans in free agency. As of right now, Daniel Brunskill and recently-signed Chris Hubbard seem like the most likely options at OT opposite Andre Dillard for Tennessee.
